The Local Campaign

The local campaign is being funded by a £10,000 grant which has been given to Colchester Borough Council by the government.

It is being co-ordinated by Colchester Borough Homes – a non profit making company owned by the council, which manages Council homes in the borough. They will be promoting the initiative locally, and working with other social housing landlords in the area to reduce fraud.

A bus advertising campaign is planned, to raise awareness of the issue in Colchester. Leaflets and posters will be provided to landlords in the area, and there will be extra training for their staff.

Colchester Borough Homes Director of Housing, Karen Loweman, says “These fraudsters are depriving people in much greater need of a home. The aim of this project is to make more homes available to those in greatest need. If you think you know someone who illegally subletting their home then you should let us know.”
